Structured Query Language (SQL) is a de facto standard for database query languages, recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and used by virtually all database technologies in the industry today. All databases and/or file systems that supply generic interfaces such as ODBC must provide an ANSI-standard SQL interface.
ProvideX is no exception to this rule. Its ODBC drivers are fully SQL compliant thus allowing applications that wish to use SQL (such as Access, Excel, etc.) to read from or write to the ProvideX database.
ProvideX, however, is more than just a database -- it is a full development environment designed specifically for use in business applications. This includes a database/file system, SQL-compliant ODBC drivers, graphical development toolkit, programming language, web server, thin client interfaces -- all designed to run on a wide variety of computer systems such as Windows, Linux, UNIX, and AIX.
Unlike many other development environments, all aspects of ProvideX are designed to work together while at the same time work with other external components. What this means to the application developer is that ProvideX provides all the tools and facilities required to design, develop, and implement an application. The developer doesn't have purchase his database software from one source, his language from another, his web interface from a third, and so on.
All aspects of his business application can generally be served by the ProvideX family of products, and all of these products are designed to operate together on multiple platforms. Not only does this reduce the risk of incompatibilities between various components of the system but also means that support of the product and its components comes from a single source. This avoids the common problem of trying to source an problem when multiple vendors are involved.
Another advantage of the ProvideX environment is that it is highly optimized to work together. The application language is closely tied to the database technology allowing for high-speed data access. The graphical development environment is optimized to work with thin-client technologies. All components of the ProvideX environment, when used together, take advantage of a common architecture to provide maximum speed and flexibility.
ProvideX also adheres to the most generally accepted software standards: its database fully supports SQL, the language can be used to access or develop COM interfaces, and so on. This allows for a full integration of ProvideX applications into non-ProvideX applications and vice versa.
No, we don't call ProvideX "ProvideX-SQL" or "ProvideX-Database" since ProvideX is much more than just a database technology, it is a complete solution.
What makes ProvideX different is that we provide a "complete solution," optimized to provide high performance, capable of integrating with all industry standards, and implemented such that the resultant application will run on virtually any operating system.
